What is Ffos Las Racecourse Famous For?
Ffos Las is, strictly speaking, the newest racecourse in the UK having been inaugurated in June \2009. Great Leighs was first opened the previous year before being re-opened as Chelmsford City in 2015. It is Wales' third racecourse and the first new National Hunt course for 80 years.
It was opened by businessman Dai Walters, whose silks were worn by the likes of Oscar Whisky and Whisper, but he sold the track to Arena Racing Company in 2018 having found difficulty securing fixtures on the calendar.
Ffos Las Racecourse Track Specifics
Ffos Las Races may be a long way to go for most trainers, but the reward is a flat and fair track on the flat and over jumps. It is a left-handed galloping oval a mile and a half in length (2400m) with an additional six-furlong (1200m) straight track. There is also an extension for a one and a half-mile start.
Biggest Meeting's at Ffos Las Racecourse
While prominent fixtures have changed notably in recent years, the highlight of Ffos Las's season is the Grade 2 Welsh Champion Hurdle over two miles (3200m) held in October.
The West Wales National was so ridiculously attritional when staged in January that it was switched to the track's first Easter Sunday Family Raceday in 2017.
