Where is Great Yarmouth Racecourse?
Great Yarmouth Racecourse is 2km north of the town centre and main pier, situated just off the A149. The seaside town is just over 20km east of Norwich along the A47.
Great Yarmouth is the nearest rail station 1.5km away and a 20-minute walk to the track.
What is Great Yarmouth Racecourse Famous For?
The first Great Yarmouth Races were recorded in 1715 with the first racecourse proper established in 1810. In 1920, the track was moved to its current location in North Denes from South Denes at the other end of town.
Yarmouth hosts flat racing all summer and can be a great place to see future stars thanks to its proximity to Newmarket. Ouija Board, Raven's Pass and the ill-fated Dubai Millennium all shed their maiden tags at the track.
Great Yarmouth Racecourse Track Specifics
Great Yarmouth is a left-handed elongated oval a mile and five furlongs (2600m) long with fairly tight turns. There is also a straight mile course incorporating the long five-furlong (1000m) run-in.
It is almost entirely flat making it an excellent galloping track and popular with trainers of young horses.
Biggest Meeting's at Great Yarmouth Racecourse
The three-day Eastern Festival in mid-September from Tuesday to Thursday is the highlight of Great Yarmouth's season. The track's premier race, the Listed John Musker Fillies' Stakes, takes place on the Wednesday with a popular Ladies Day rounding off the meeting.
