Established in 1878, Kempton Park hosts around 10 winter jumps fixtures with over 50 all-weather flat meetings throughout the year.
The track was closed from May 2005 to March 2006 for a polytrack surface and floodlights to be installed. Owners the Jockey Club announced Kempton Park would be sold for housing in 2017 but those plans were scrapped early in 2020.
Kempton Park Racecourse Track Specifics
Kempton Park's jumps course is triangular, right-handed and flat. It is a mile and five furlongs (2600m) long and a real speed test apart from in testing conditions when stamina comes into play.
The flat course is a right-handed American-style oval. It has a tighter inner course for races over five furlongs (1000m) and a mile and a quarter (2000m) featuring a home straight of under two furlongs (400m).
Biggest Meeting's at Kempton Park Racecourse
The two-day Winter Festival is the highlight of the season headed by the King George VI Chase on Boxing Day. The traditional Christmas showpiece was won five times by Kauto Star, once more than Desert Orchid. There are two other Grade 1s on the card: the Christmas Hurdle and the Kauto Star Novices' Chase, formerly known as the Feltham.
September Stakes day is the standout on the flat with the eponymous all-age middle-distance feature sharing top billing with another Group 3, the Sirenia Stakes for three-year-olds. But the most valuable race on the card is the final of the London Mile handicap series.
