What is Perth Racecourse Famous For?
The first Perth races were held in 1613 south of the city centre in South Inch. They were moved to Scone Palace Park in 1908 and the track has become a popular summer jumps venue hosting in excess of 10 meetings per year. Perth is the northernmost racecourse in Britain.
Perth Racecourse Track Specifics
Perth is a right-handed track in the shape of a trapezium and one and a quarter miles (2000m) long. Despite being largely flat with generous turns, it can turn into a stamina test as the omission of the water jump in front of the stands makes the run-in a long one. This often catches out those who have kicked for home too soon.
Biggest Meeting's at Perth Racecourse
The highlight of Perth's season is its opener, the three-day Perth Festival in late April running from Wednesday to Friday. The feature on day one is the Listed Gold Castle Novice Hurdle for stayers with the Class 2 River Tay Handicap Chase headlining Thursday's action. The Highland National over three miles and seven furlongs (6200m) and the Listed Fair Maid of Perth Mares' Chase share top billing on the final day.
