The 2017 Open Championship is almost upon us and we take a look at some outsiders which could possibly cause an upset at golf’s most prestigious tournament.
Jon Lahm – 18/1
It is rare for a ‘rookie’ to be priced as low as 18/1 but following his achievements of late the Spaniard must surely feature amongst the favourites to win at Royal Birkdale. Even when one puts this 18/1 price to one side, the odds of 17/2 on him finishing as the top player from Europe looks extremely tempting to us.
Adam Scott – 30/1
There is every possibility that this could prove to be Adam Scott’s year and the Aussie is up for grabs at a meaty 30/1 with Boylesports. Scott was ‘beaten up’ at the Scottish Open but believes that this will prove good preparation ahead of the action at Royal Birkdale.
Daniel Berger – 60/1
Berger appears to be a very decent shout at a huge price. The American has been enjoying some decent form of late having tied for fifth place at the recent John Deere Classic and clinching second place at the Travelers Championship. At 60s he represents excellent value and we believe that he could just spring a surprise at Royal Birkdale.
Marc Leishman – 55/1
Marc Leishman has managed two top-five finishes of late and bagged himself a win, therefore at odds of 55/1 he represents exceptional value to cause an upset and win the Open Championship, however let’s be more realistic and take the 10/3 on offer that he finishes the tournament as top Australian at Royal Birkdale.
