Wigan Athletic are now the /' favourites to bounce back up to the Championship as champions, the Latics having deposed former frontrunners Blackburn Rovers. Rovers were English champions some 22 years ago and they have since failed to replicate the ultimate domestic success. Indeed following their takeover by Venky's in 2010 they have been struggling in the Championship and their eventual relegation to the third tier of the English game at the end of 2016/17 was no great surprise.
Things were starting to look better for Rovers following the appointment of Tony Mowbray as manager in February with just three defeats in their closing fifteen games and many are backing them to bounce straight back up to the Championship at the first time of asking.
Portsmouth were amongst the favourites to climb back up to the second tier, the former Premier League side clawing themselves out of League Two at the end of last season. Nevertheless their weekend defeat at home to Oldham Athletic has resulted in their odds slipping to as much as 40/1 for the League One title.
Favourites to clinch the League One title are Wigan Athletic, the Latics making the drop at the end of last season alongside Blackburn Rovers. A string of managers have arrived and left from the Lancashire club since the departure of Roberto Martinez over four years' ago. Paul Cook is now the man in charge and he will be eager to ensure that the Latics will move division for the fourth season in succession.
