Aston Villa have been struggling in this season’s Championship although their 1-0 victory at home to Derby County on Saturday afternoon lifted the gloom surrounding Villa Park at the moment and distanced Steve Bruce’s side from the relegation zone.
Indeed the Villans remain relatively close to the bottom three in the Championship with eight points separating the West Midlands outfit from third-from-bottom side Wigan Athletic, however they can distance themselves even further should they collect all three points against Bristol City on Tuesday evening.
The Robins have been flirting with the relegation zone for much of the season although their 2-2 draw at St James’ Park on Saturday gifted them a valuable point in their battle for survival in the second tier. Indeed Lee Johnson’s men went two goals ahead after just 21 minutes through the efforts of Aaron Wilbraham and David Cotterill, however two second half goals for the Magpies earned a share of the spoils and Bristol City will be confident of going one better this week.
Just two points separate Johnson’s men from the bottom three and whilst they have shown signs of improvement of late, they desperately need more points on the board and the visit to Villa Park on Tuesday evening presents the visitors with the ideal opportunity to do just that. Nevertheless Villa were impressive in their hard-fought victory at the weekend and they are certain to be pushing for another positive result this week although we really cannot recommend backing the home side given their form this season.
Indeed Bristol City have also been a mixed bag, however given that they managed draws at Derby County and Newcastle United this month, we do feel that they can leave Villa Park with something for their troubles and as such, the most likely outcome on Tuesday as far as we’re concerned is a share of the spoils.
