Prior to the start of the season it was widely predicted that Middlesbrough would be amongst the promotion challengers towards the end of the season, however whilst the Teessiders sit in the top half of the Championship table after the opening eleven rounds of fixtures, they aren’t really looking like promotion material it must be said. Record signing Britt Assombalonga has been touted as top Championship goalscorer this season but even he has been pretty quiet of late with no goals in Middlesbrough’s last four outings. The bookmakers go best odds of 5/4 that Assombalonga will end his goal-drought this weekend.
Middlesbrough’s expensively assembled squad have only managed two points out of a possible nine heading into this weekend’s clash with Barnsley at Oakwell and boss Garry Monk will clearly be hopeful of better things in South Yorkshire. Will his prayers be answered on Saturday afternoon?

Barnsley are a hard one to predict. The Tykes have collected a mere eleven points from their ten Championship games this season but they ended September with an excellent 3-1 win over Millwall at the Den and they will be in confident mood ahead of this weekend’s clash. Indeed Paul Heckingbottom’s men have been pretty solid on home turf with wins over the likes of Nottingham Forest, Sunderland and Derby County, therefore whilst we don’t believe that they will have the edge over visitors Middlesbrough this weekend, we do envisage them forcing them to a share of the spoils in what looks set to be a closely-fought encounter.
