Many expected Steve McClaren to steer Derby County into the play-offs towards the end of the season and the belief around Pride Park was that perhaps this could be the season that the Rams could finally get back into the Premier League. In all honesty, it isn’t looking very likely.
A 1-0 weekend defeat to Aston Villa effectively ended any promotion-dreams which still remained and it also extended Derby’s winless Championship run to five games. Indeed the Rams have managed a measly two points from their last five outings and we don’t envisage things getting much better when they travel to Ewood Park on Tuesday evening.
Hosts Blackburn have been having a pretty torrid time of things this season and have languished in and around the relegation zone for much of the campaign. They have nevertheless shown recent signs of improvement since the turn of the year with wins over Newcastle United and Queens Park Rangers, therefore we’re pretty confident of their chances of getting one over on a Derby County side which will be at something of a low ebb at the moment.
Indeed Rovers managed a decent enough 1-1 draw at Burton Albion in their last Championship outing and we believe that they can build on this by collecting all three points in front of their own home fans this week. Derby have been pretty abysmal in recent weeks and have managed just one away win in the league since mid-December. This isn’t an impressive statistic by any means and whilst Blackburn remain very much rooted in the bottom three, we feel that their situation can improve considerably on Tuesday evening with a win against the Rams.
