Bournemouth’s slow rise up the Premier League table came to a standstill following their midweek defeat at home to high-flying Burnley, this disappointing result ending the Cherries’ three-game unbeaten run which saw them take seven points from a possible nine. Indeed Burnley have been in excellent form this season, especially away from Turf Moor but nevertheless this does little to mask the fact that Bournemouth put in a thoroughly disappointing display in front of their home fans and manager Eddie Howe will be demanding a stronger performance when they face south coast rivals Southampton on Sunday afternoon.
“At home, you expect us to dominate the ball and lay siege to their goal, you expect us to be a little bit more clinical and we were poor,” Howe admitted to the BBC’s ‘Match of The Day’. “The responsibility lies with your team, they are difficult to play against and to score against. Going into the game I expected a quick game from us and we didn’t get that, you want to give the crowd something to cling on to and they didn’t get that.”

Southampton thumped Everton to the tune of 4-1 last weekend but they haven’t enjoyed the best of form over the past few weeks, the Saints losing to Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United but also dropping points in winnable games in front of their home fans. They have been far from impressive on the road too with their only away win in the Premier League being at bottom side Crystal Palace in September. Boss Mauricio Pellegrino therefore finds himself under pressure after just a few months in the hot-seat, however will this pressure be eased on Sunday or will the Cherries claim all three points at Dean Court?
We’re going for the latter. Bournemouth will be aiming to bounce back from their poor showing against Burnley and they have an ideal chance to do just that when they face a Saints outfit which has won just three competitive matches in the last three months, the bookmakers going a strangely generous 19/10 on the hosts.
