It is hard to believe that while Bradford City were enjoying life in the Premier League back in 2000/2001, Fleetwood Town were a mere three years old and plying their trade in the North West Counties Premier Division. Move forward 17 years and they are both involved in a League One play-off clash. How times change.
Fleetwood’s rise up the divisions has been pretty dramatic and Football League status was secured in 2011/12. Following another promotion just two seasons later, the Trawlermen will be confident of taking a step further up the football pyramid by negotiating their way through the League One play-offs.
Bradford City stand in their way however and with the Bantams enjoying a decent enough finish to the season, can Fleetwood grab themselves an advantage in the first leg of their semi-final clash at Valley parade?
We’re not too confident of their chances. The Lancashire side have been pretty impressive on their travels of late, however Bradford City have made Valley Parade something of a fortress this season. With no league defeats in front of their home fans this season, we don’t envisage the Bantams slipping-up in what is their most important home game of the season. Fleetwood will provide tough opposition and should contribute to the scoreline at some point, however Bradford’s home form is something which cannot be ignored and we’ll be backing the home side to win on Thursday evening with Fleetwood scoring a consolation effort for good measure.
