Lee Johnson’s Robins sit in relative safety some four points above the bottom three in the Championship but despite enjoying some decent results in recent outings, now is not the time to become complacent. With three games left to play, Bristol City could yet find themselves embroiled in a battle against relegation and nothing short of three points will suffice when they go head-to-head with Barnsley on Saturday afternoon.
Looking at the Robins’ recent form we’re pretty confident that they will avoid the drop and remain in the second-tier for at least another season. City have dropped just two points in their last three Championship outings and went through March unbeaten, this run including a fine 4-0 victory over promotion hopefuls Huddersfield Town. Indeed while Johnson’s men have been a bit of a mixed bag away from home, their record at Ashton Gate makes for impressive reading with victory in each of their last three home matches and no defeats since February.
This all points very much towards a home win on Saturday afternoon. Visitors Barnsley have been experiencing something of a slump of late with just a solitary win in their last eleven Championship games, this coming against relegation-threatened Blackburn Rovers earlier this month. Paul Heckingbottom’s men have managed some notable wins on the road since the turn of the year, however Bristol City are particularly solid at home of late and they will be desperate to further distance themselves from the relegation zone. The visitors should manage to add to the scoreline at some point but we’ll be heading towards a home win this weekend.
