It was widely predicted that the Magpies would make a swift return back to the Premier League at the first time of asking and they certainly haven’t disappointed. There have been a few slip-ups along the way and this will likely cost them the Championship title, however the fact is that they are back in the top-flight and that was Rafael Benitez’s remit after all.
They can now concentrate on closing the four-point gap between themselves and Brighton & Hove Albion although with just two games left to play we’re not too confident of their chances. That said, should the Magpies win on Friday evening and the Seagulls fail to take maximum points from their meeting with Bristol City, then the title race will once again be wide open. Indeed Brighton’s failure to take anything from their trip to Carrow Road on Friday evening was something of a surprise and it provided Newcastle with a slim chance of catching them up before the season draws to a close.
As far as Friday evening’s encounter is concerned, we believe that Newcastle United will make it two wins on the bounce against a Cardiff City outfit which have been something of a mixed bag since the start of the campaign. The Bluebirds have managed just two wins from their last six Championship outings although their home form has been pretty impressive with just a single league defeat on home soil since December.
This is certain to be a tough clash for the Magpies and we believe that the hosts will give them cause for concern by scoring at some point, however we expect the visitors to score more as they frantically attempt to close the gap on table-topping Brighton & Hove Albion before the curtain comes down on what has been a thrilling Championship title race.
