The play-off places have all been filled, the automatic promotion has been settled, however for many Championship sides their final game of the season holds much in the way of importance. Brighton & Hove Albion and Newcastle United remain in the hunt for the title, while Blackburn Rovers, Nottingham Forest and Birmingham City will be hoping to avoid the drop to League One. Who will be the winners and losers?
Here’s what we think….
Aston Villa v Brighton & Hove Albion match preview and betting tips
Brighton & Hove Albion may have secured promotion to the Premier League but they haven’t yet won the Championship title. We expect the Seagulls to collect all three points at Villa Park this weekend however and finish what has been an utterly incredible season for Chris Hughton’s men
Brentford v Blackburn Rovers match preview and betting tips
Brentford have very little to play for this weekend apart from pride, however for Blackburn Rovers this is make or break time. Lose on Saturday and it is game over for Tony Mowbray’s men, however a single point could be enough should other results go their way. We envisage that it will be game over.
Bristol City v Birmingham City match preview and betting tips
Birmingham City may have managed a much-needed win at the weekend but they still remain dangerously close to the relegation zone. We don’t expect the Blues to collect any points whatsoever at Ashton Gate on Saturday afternoon and as such, their future in the second tier is very much our of their hands.
Burton Albion v Reading match preview and betting tips
Reading will be heading into the play-offs but they will be eager to finish the regular season on a high note and we’ll be backing them to do just that when they go head-to-head with Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Back the hosts to find the net though.
Huddersfield Town v Cardiff City match preview and betting tips
Huddersfield Town were the in-form Championship side just a few weeks back, however things have gone downhill since then and whilst they are guaranteed a play-off place, they will be desperate to return back to winning ways on Saturday afternoon. We believe that they will.
Newcastle United v Barnsley match preview and betting tips
Should Newcastle United wish to grab for themselves the Championship title, then they only have one game to do it. Brighton enjoy a one-point lead over the Magpies as things stand, however time is fast running out and while we’ll be going for a Newcastle United win on Saturday, the question is – will it be enough for a title victory?
Norwich City v QPR match preview and betting tips
Norwich City and Queens Park Rangers are both in no danger of relegation and far from the play-off places, therefore we’re not expecting too much in the way of fireworks when the sides go head-to-head at Carrow Road on the final weekend of the season.
Nottingham Forest v Ipswich Town match preview and betting tips
Nottingham Forest remain very much in the danger zone with just a slightly superior goal-difference keeping them above third-from-bottom side Blackburn Rovers. Three points for Forest might be enough to secure a place in the Championship next season, but it might not.
Rotherham United v Derby County match preview and betting tips
This is a season which Rotherham United fans will be hoping to forget, of that there can be little doubt. Nevertheless the side have been showing glimpses of improvement and we believe that they can end what has been an awful campaign by securing a point at home to Derby County.
Sheffield Wednesday v Fulham match preview and betting tips
Sheffield Wednesday and Fulham have both been putting in some excellent performances in recent weeks and they will lock horns at Hillsborough this coming weekend. The question is, who will come out on top? We believe that it will be the Owls.
Wigan Athletic v Leeds United match preview and betting tips
When the going got tough, Leeds United failed to get going. Instead they dropped out of the play-off places to be replaced by Fulham. Victory over Wigan this weekend will be little compensation however and the Whites will need to regroup and prepare for another season in the Championship.
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Preston North End match preview and betting tips
Another ‘dead rubber’ of a match between two sides which have hardly set the Championship alight this season. Who will come out on top at Molineux this weekend? Nobody probably and as such we’ll be backing a draw in the West Midlands on Saturday afternoon.
