With the international break now behind us, attention now turns back to league action and this weekend’s Championship line-up involves some real crackers. Friday evening sees two evening kick-offs with table-topping Cardiff City travelling to struggling Birmingham City in what has all the makings of an emphatic away win.
Heading the opposite way along the M5, Burton Albion travel to Bristol City’s Ashton Gate, the visitors unlikely to return home with anything for their troubles against a Robins side which have climbed into the Championship top-four following some excellent recent results.
Saturday afternoon’s action sees struggling Sunderland face Aston Villa and we’ll be surprised if the Black cats help their cause at the Stadium of Light. Sheffield United have been enjoying a fine old time of things this season following their promotion from League One as champions and they will be confident of seeing off Ipswich Town at Bramall Lane. Leeds United are keeping apace with the top-four in the Championship and they will be eager to bounce back from their shock 3-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday prior to the international break when they face last season’s play-off finalists Reading, while the Owls head to rock-bottom side Bolton Wanderers in what looks set to be a thoroughly one-sided exchange.
Elsewhere, Middlesbrough travel to Barnsley as they look to end their three-match winless run while Hull City will be looking to build upon their huge 6-1 win over Birmingham City when they travel to Norwich City. A London derby sees Brentford pitted against Millwall at Griffin Park while Fulham lock horns with a Preston North End side which have been enjoying some fine results in recent weeks. The Saturday evening kick-off match promises much in the way of action as West Midlands rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa lock horns at Molineux.
The action concludes on Sunday afternoon in what looks set to be a closely-fought East Midlands derby between Derby County and Nottingham Forest at pride Park.
