Chelsea have been the most consistent side in the Premier League for most of the season and whilst they really didn’t need a helping hand in their fight for the title, this is exactly what they got on Friday evening. Tottenham Hotspur have been chasing the Blues all the way and a win against West Ham United at the London Stadium would have lifted Pochettino’s men to just one point adrift of the league leaders, however the visitors crashed to a 1-0 defeat in East London and this all-but-ensured that the Premier League title will be heading to Stamford Bridge this season. Indeed Chelsea could extend their lead over the chasing pack to seven points tonight, but will they?
Tonight’s visitors Middlesbrough are struggling near to the foot of the Premier League table and they desperately need a win which would help them climb closer to safety. Nevertheless with just three matches left to play and seven points separating them from the safety zone, things aren’t looking good for the Teesside club and even the most optimistic Boro fans won’t be expecting three points tonight.
Indeed Chelsea have stumbled a couple of times in recent weeks with defeats to Manchester United and Crystal Palace. Middlesborough are unbeaten in their last two games with a 1-0 win over Sunderland and 2-2 draw with Manchester City, however their form away from the Riverside in the top-flight makes for appalling reading with a solitary victory since the start of the campaign and just ten goals scored along the way. They do boast a pretty solid defence however and as such they may frustrate the home side for long periods. As such, the handicap market is best avoided although with Boro pretty pathetic in front of goal we have no hesitation in going for a Blues win-to-nil tonight.
Diego Costa should play his part by banging in a goal or two, however at odds of 1/2 he represents little in the way of value and instead we’ll be relying Willian to provide us with a winning return by adding to the goal-tally this evening. He scored a brace in the FA Cup semi-final victory over Spurs last month and we wouldn’t be shocked to see him net against Middlesbrough in tonight’s match.
