Ronald Koeman won for himself no shortage of admirers and plaudits as he steered Southampton to a sixth-place Premier League finish in 2015/16, however it would now appear that he is on the verge of leaving St Mary's having attracted the attention of majority Everton shareholder Farhad Moshiri.
Now that it looks as though the 53-year-old will be tempted to Goodison Park with some bookmakers going as low as just 1/10 that he makes the move, who will be the man to replace him at Southampton?
The favourite as things stand is former Manchester United and Everton boss David Moyes. Moyes has been linked with a move to numerous clubs since his departure from La Liga side Real Sociedad, however he is still out of work and would surely relish a chance to move to Southampton, one would think.
Having been linked with Celtic, Aston Villa and Everton, he would be a suitable candidate for the St Mary's job now that all the aforementioned clubs have filled their managerial vacancies and William Hill go 8/1 that Moyes will make a return to management with Southampton.
Another potential candidate is former Manchester City chief Manuel Pellegrini, the 62-year-old Chilean leaving the Etihad at the end of last season having guided the side to the last four of the Champions League, a Capital One Cup and a top-four Premier League finish. He has made clear his wish to remain on these shores and was once a leading contender for the position at Everton, however the bookies believe that he could now be a potential candidate for the St Mary's job with William Hill going 10/1 that he lands the post.
Stoke City boss Mark Hughes is also a 10/1 shot, while Sevilla manager Unai Emery - also linked to a move to Goodison - is up for grabs at 12/1. The Spaniard has led his side to the Copa del Rey final this season as well as a Europa League title, the bookmakers believing that these excellent achievements could lead to numerous too-good-to-refuse offers.
Ex Everton manager Roberto Martinez is another leading candidate at 12/1 with William Hill, while the same firm go 14/1 that Frank de Boer lands the job. The Dutchman had success with previous club Ajax, leading them to several Netherlands titles but quitting after failing to match that success in 2015/16. De Boer has made clear his interest in managing in the Premier League and having apparently lost out on the Goodison Park position, the Saints may provide him with a suitable alternative.
