Burton Albion have always lived in the shadow of their much larger neighbour Derby County, until this season that is. The Brewers deservedly won promotion to the Championship at the end of 2015/16 and defeated the Rams to the tune of 1-0 in their first ever league meeting in August.
Since then Burton Albion's season has been mainly one of disappointment and some poor results have seen them fall dangerously close to the bottom three in the Championship table. They helped their cause no end on Saturday afternoon with an excellent 2-1 victory over the Canaries, Michael Kightly scoring the winning goal in the 56th minute. Nevertheless they remain four points and just two places above the relegation zone and manager Nigel Clough will be desperate to see results improve.
Can the Brewers improve at Pride Park on Tuesday evening? Derby County once again look set to fall short of promotion given that they have been pretty much a mixed bag since the start of the campaign. They have flirted with a place in the top six several times but following some recent poor results they find themselves some eleven points adrift of the play-off places and must surely resign themselves to yet another season in the second tier.
The Rams head into this match on the back of a winless run stretching back four games in all competitions and Burton Albion will be confident of heading home with the three points in the bag. We don't completely share their confidence however. Steve McClaren's men have been solid at home and the 4-3 weekend defeat to Cardiff City was their first defeat at Pride Park since September. Nevertheless they are hard to back with any confidence whatsoever and given that the Brewers will be boosted by their weekend win, we believe that the visitors will head home with at least something for their troubles.
