The Tangerines have some silverware in the cabinet this season and whilst it may ‘only’ be the Scottish Challenge Cup, it will nevertheless have boosted morale in the side and given the supporters a day in the sun.
It is back to Championship action on Tuesday evening with the latest visitors to Tannadice being struggling Ayr United. The ‘Honest men’ have been floundering near to the foot of the table for most of the campaign although having managed what could prove to be crucial back-to-back wins over Dunfermline Athletic and Dumbarton earlier this month, we’re pretty confident that they can make it three on-the-bounce when they visit Tayside this week.
Indeed whilst Dundee United enjoyed something of a high at the weekend, their Championship campaign has slipped somewhat. The Tangerines have been amongst the play-off contenders for much of the campaign but their recent form has been pretty dismal with just one point managed in their last five league games. This clearly isn’t play-off form and whilst they enjoy an eight-point gap over fifth-placed Queen of the South, the danger remains that should they fail to return back to form, Dundee United could find themselves out of promotion contention before the end of the season.
With this in mind, we’ll be siding with the visitors on Tuesday. Ayr may be struggling near the foot of the table but they have picked themselves up in recent weeks with three wins in their last five outings. This isn’t startling form by any means but it should be good enough to overcome a Dundee United outfit which are dropping like a stone at the moment.
