Hibernian set their stall out early this season and have occupied top spot in the Scottish Championship for much of the campaign, however Dundee United and Falkirk aren’t too far behind and the Edinburgh side cannot rest on their laurels as the business end of the season fast approaches.
Neil Lennon’s men have enjoyed an excellent season and find themselves in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup thanks to their recent wins over Ayr United and arch-rivals Heart of Midlothian. The Hibees won the trophy for the first time last season and a huge number of travelling fans will make their way to Hampden Park next month to see whether their heroes can find a way past Aberdeen and into their second Scottish Cup final in succession.
Nevertheless it is back to the drudgery of the Championship campaign tonight and Lennon’s men are pretty well placed in that regard, enjoying as they do a six point lead over second-placed Falkirk. They have an opportunity to extend that lead in tonight’s clash with Dundee United at Tannadice and we see no reason why the visitors shouldn’t return to the Scottish capital with the three points in the bag.
Dundee United have been a bit of a mixed bag in recent weeks, their last seven Championship outings returning just two wins and three draws. Their previous meeting with Hibernian ended in a 3-0 hammering at Easter Road in early January and whilst the Tangerines have been particularly solid on home turf this season with no defeats at Tannadice since the start of the campaign, we feel that they will struggle against a Hibernian side which are now closing in on the Championship title.
