Motherwell’s ambitions of finishing the season in the Scottish Premiership top-six suffered a setback when they lost 1-0 at home to Kilmarnock on Saturday afternoon and Steve Robinson’s men will be hopeful of bouncing back from this disappointment when they travel to Dens Park this weekend. Indeed while the Steelmen sit just three points adrift of the top-half of the Premiership table as things stand, time is fast running out in their bid to face Scotland’s finest in the run-up to the close of the season.
They have a good chance to add some much-needed points to their tally when they head to Tayside to go head-to-head with a Dundee side which have lost all-but-one of their last five home matches in the Premiership and were beaten 2-0 by Motherwell when they met in the Scottish Cup at Dens Park two weeks ago. The Dark Blues will have been boosted by their 2-1 win at Partick Thistle last time out and this has certainly helped their battle against relegation, however given their poor recent record in front of their home fans, we’re far from confident that Neil McCann’s men will manage anything from this weekend’s clash.
That’s not to say that this will be a one-sided affair. Motherwell have hardly been setting the Scottish Premiership alight this season and given that Dundee have found the net in each of their last four top-flight games, we wouldn’t be surprised were they to feature on the goal-count on Saturday. Nevertheless Motherwell have won twice at this ground already this season and the indications are that they will enjoy a hat-trick of victories at Dens Park with a maximum points haul on Saturday afternoon.
