Dundee’s Dens Park ground lies less than 50 yards away from that of their arch-rivals Dundee United and the Dark Blues have long lived in the shadow of their more illustrious neighbours. Until this season that is. Paul Hartley’s men have thus far been something of a mixed bag following their promotion to the Scottish Premiership but they appear to have awoken from their slumber in recent weeks and followed their surprise 2-1 win over Rangers with a 5-1 demolition of Motherwell at Fir Park last weekend.
This has been enough to elevate the Dark Blues into the top half of the table and they have the chance to make it three wins on the bounce when they welcome Partick Thistle to Dens Park on Wednesday evening.
For their part, Partick Thistle have also struggled with inconsistency and sit just a single point adrift of Dundee as we head into this midweek round of fixtures. The Jags have also enjoyed a purple patch of late with 2-0 wins over both Hamilton Academicals and Heart of Midlothian, however these victories have both been at home and they have been very much a mixed bag on the road this season. Indeed Dundee have enjoyed some excellent form at Dens Park with their last home defeat in the Premiership being in this very fixture back in October when the Jags ran out 2-0 winners.
We’re not expecting a similar scoreline this time around, at least not in favour of the visitors, although whilst we’ll be going for a home win on this occasion, Partick have been having few problems finding the back of the net of late and a consolation Jags goal looks very much the order of the day.
