Chelsea’s recent stumbles have allowed Tottenham Hotspur to narrow the gap on the Premier League leaders to a mere four points, however Antonio Conte’s men certainly enjoy the psychological advantage in that they dumped Spurs out of the FA Cup last weekend. The Blues followed this by putting Southampton to the sword to the tune of 4-2 in their midweek outing, however can they make it three on the bounce when they travel to Merseyside on Sunday afternoon?
Everton have dropped points in all-but-two of their last five games but these were all on their travels. The Toffees are a completely different kettle of fish at Goodison Park this season with Ronald Koeman’s men avoiding defeat in all of their home matches since the 1-0 defeat to arch-rivals Liverpool in December. Indeed this has been their only Premier League loss on home soil since the start of the campaign, however we believe that they will suffer a second this weekend.
Chelsea may have slipped-up a couple of times recently but they are still without doubt a class act in the top-flight. Their form on the road makes impressive reading with 11 away wins in the Premier League and they thrashed Everton 5-0 in their last meeting. OK so the Toffees have improved since that clash in November but we do expect the Blues to do the double over their opponents this weekend by picking up all three points.
We also expect to see a few goals along the way. Both Chelsea and Everton have been having few problems finding the back of the net this season with only Liverpool banging in more than Conte’s men and Everton failing to score in just one of their league games at Goodison Park. Nevertheless Chelsea will almost certainly have the edge and should manage the three points, however they will have a fight on their hands.
