Following Carlisle United can be a massive commitment. An away game for the Cumbrians usually entails a journey of several hours in each direction and more often that not an overnight stay. This weekend's game however is in a league of its own. The Cumbrians will need to make a round-trip of exactly 700-miles in order to see their side play their final game of the season. Will the travelling hordes be rewarded for their efforts?
Things were looking pretty good for Carlisle United just a few months ago. The Cumbrians enjoyed a remarkable lengthy unbeaten run in the earlier stages of the season and this lifted them into the automatic promotion places, however they have been far less impressive of late and have only just managed to haul themselves back into the play-off places courtesy of a couple of wins and a handful of draws last month.
Prior to April, Keith Curle's men went seven League Two games without once finding the back of the net. Clearly something was amiss, however things have nevertheless improved for whatever reason and the Cumbrians now have a chance to make amends for their disappointing run by securing their place in the play-offs this weekend.
Home side Exeter City can sit back in the knowledge that their play-off position is assured, whatever the outcome of this weekend's match. The Grecians head into this weekend's encounter on the back of successive 3-1 wins over Morecambe and Doncaster Rovers and as such their spirits will be pretty high to say the least. Nevertheless Carlisle have shown real signs of improvement in recent weeks and they will be further boosted by a large and noisy contingent of travelling fans on Saturday afternoon, therefore whilst Exeter will almost certainly find the net at some point, we'll be backing the Cumbrians to edge what will be a closely-fought affair and secure their place in the League Two play-offs.
