Carlisle United remain in the League Two play-off places despite some utterly dismal recent form. Their 2-0 win against Yeovil Town at the start of this month ended a seven-game winless run during which the Cumbrians failed to register a single goal. Nevertheless this win proved to be a brief respite and Keith Curle’s men went down 2-1 at home to Notts County in their last fixture.
The Cumbrians are therefore clinging onto the play-off places by their fingertips with just two points existing between themselves and eighth-placed Blackpool as things stand, however can they cement their place in the top seven with a win at Hartlepool on Friday afternoon?
This is a pretty big ask given Carlisle United’s recent form. A mere three goals have been scored by the Cumbrians in their last nine outings and whilst Hartlepool are languishing dangerously close to the relegation zone with just three points separating them from the bottom two, their recent results make for better reading than that of the visitors.
Hartlepool have managed three wins and a draw from their last eight games and whilst isn’t exactly impressive, it is nevertheless an improvement compared to earlier in the season. Such form should enable them to remain clear of the drop zone should it continue and with the North-East side losing just twice in their last seven home games, we feel that the Cumbrians’ woes will continue this week.
Indeed Carlisle seem to be doing their utmost to fall out of the play-off places and we believe that this will prove to be the case when they visit Victoria Park on Friday.
