Heart of Midlothian were widely expected to effectively stroll through the Scottish League Cup group stages, however they find themselves sitting in second place in Group B following a less-than-impressive set of performances. They edged past Elgin City 1-0 in their opening game and while they enjoyed an emphatic 3-0 win at home to East Fife last weekend, they failed to build on this and went down to a shock 1-0 defeat at Peterhead on Tuesday evening.
Can the Jambos bounce back by putting Championship side Dunfermline Athletic to the sword on Saturday afternoon? The Pars sit firmly at the top of the group table after an impressive campaign which has seen them thrash Elgin City 6-0 and Peterhead 5-1 as well as draw 1-1 with East Fife and subsequently beat them 9-8 on penalties. As such we envisage the visitors to Tynecastle causing the home side plenty of problems this weekend and a closely-fought and thrilling affair should ensue.
Hearts have been unconvincing in the tournament thus far and one wouldn't be surprised were they unable to take top-spot in their final group match given the nature of their performances. Indeed Dunfermline are fully deserving of their table-topping position and while the home side are a cut above the rest of Group B on paper, we expect the visitors to cling onto top spot by edging their way to victory over a disappointing Heart of Midlothian outfit on Saturday afternoon.
