At the bottom end of the Championship, all eyes are on Sunderland as they prepare themselves for a second successive relegation, however should things continue as they have been at the KCOM Stadium of late, they may well be joined by fellow ex-Premier League side Hull City. The Tigers are a mere three points clear of the foot of the table as things stand and while they enjoy a game-in-hand over the sides below them in the league table, things remain pretty grim for Nigel Adkins' men.
Adkins is Hull City's fifth manager in less than seventeen months and since his appointment in early December, the Tigers have managed just two Championship wins, a dreadful statistic in anyone's book. They boosted their chances of avoiding relegation earlier this month when they managed what could prove a crucial win at Nottingham Forest, however their following league outing ended in a 3-1 defeat Middlesbrough and we're not too confident of their chances against Sheffield United on Friday evening.
Chris Wilder's side head into this match having ended a poor run during which they won just once in six Championship outings. This sent the Blades out of the top-six altogether although they appear to have bounced back with successive league wins at home to Leeds United and Queens Park Rangers. Wilder's men have been pretty solid on their travels and this should hold them in good stead when they lock horns with a Hull City side which are as woeful on home turf as they are on the road.
This is an excellent opportunity for Sheffield United to continue their winning league run and climb back into play-off contention and we believe that the Blades will grab this chance with both hands, leaving Hull City staring bleakly at the very real threat of relegation.
