Juventus are once again proving beyond doubt their dominance of the domestic game with a six-point lead over second-placed Roma at the top of Serie A as things stand and they certainly won’t be over-awed by the prospect of facing Barcelona in this Champions League quarter-final first-leg clash.
The ‘Old Lady’ of Italian football are once again firmly in amongst the elite of the European game and whilst they haven’t exactly had things their own way en-route to this stage of the competition, they have nevertheless demonstrated that they have what it takes to hold their own amongst the top level on the continent.
Juventus’ recent record makes decent reading with just a single defeat in their last seventeen games across all competitions. This excellent run includes an impressive 3-0 aggregate win over FC Porto in the last-sixteen of the Champions League and whilst they haven’t as yet faced opposition of the calibre of Barcelona, one cannot hide the fact that the Catalans were humiliated to the tune of 4-0 at PSG and this indicates a vulnerability away from the Nou Camp.
Indeed Luis Enrique’s men were humbled 2-0 at Malaga in their last outing and with just a solitary clean-sheet in their last six games, we cannot find the confidence to back Barca to get anything from this Tuesday evening meeting. Juventus are very well placed to grab for themselves a first-leg advantage and the bookmakers are offering up a tidy 8/5 that the hosts get the job done ahead of what promises to be a hugely tricky return leg at the Nou Camp later this month.
