The Scottish Premiership looks set to be parting company with Inverness Caledonian Thistle at the end of the season but who will be joining the Highlanders in the Championship remains anyone’s guess. Things certainly remain pretty tight towards the foot of the table as things stand with Dundee, Motherwell and Hamilton Academical still in serious danger of making the drop, however this weekend’s round of fixtures may make things a little clearer.
Dundee undoubtedly did themselves no end of favours by beating Motherwell 3-2 at Fir Park last weekend, the Dark Blues surging into a 3-1 lead at half-time before the ‘Well scored a second consolation some ten minutes from time. This much-needed victory ended a dreadful seven-game losing run and Neil McCann’s men will be desperate to build on their weekend success by making it back-to-back wins on Saturday afternoon.
Given that they will be facing a Kilmarnock side which have shown signs of improvement of late, we don’t fancy Dundee’s chances too much. Rugby Park is hardly a fortress for Killie this season but they have been pretty solid on home turf against sides in the bottom half of the Scottish premiership table. This weekend’s hosts have lost just once in their last seven top-flight games – this being at Celtic Park – and they managed to hold Rangers to a goal-less draw at Rugby Park last month. This would lead us to believe that they can edge this weekend’s encounter with Dundee.
Indeed Kilmarnock have shown more in the way of defensive solidity in recent outings and with clean sheets in three of their last four games, we’ll be going for a Kilmarnock win-to-nil on Saturday afternoon.
