Liverpool’s miserable form of late January and February is now a distant memory and the Reds continue to close in on a top-three finish in the Premier League which would guarantee a place in the Champions League group stages. The Merseysiders have avoided defeat in their last seven top-flight outings with seventeen points collected during that time and this excellent form has kept them ahead of main rivals Manchester United and Manchester City.
Nevertheless with United enjoying two games-in-hand over the Reds and the Citizens possessing an advantage of one game, Jurgen Klopp’s men will desperately need to collect all three points against Crystal Palace this weekend in order to stay ahead of the game.
Looking at the Premier League table one could assume that this should be a mere formality, however Crystal Palace’s lowly league position belies their excellent recent run. The Eagles looked set to fall into the Championship only a few short weeks ago, however they appear to have turned a corner under the guidance of Sam Allardyce and enjoy a seven-point lead over the bottom three. The Selhurst park side have lost just once in their last seven outings, this run including a 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge and a 3-0 thrashing of Arsenal earlier this month.
While the Reds certainly cannot take this match lightly, they have proven themselves more than capable of winning tough games and this will certainly be one of those. They may fail to dominate for long periods and will almost certainly concede at some point against a much-improved Eagles side, however we do expect the three points to stay at Anfield and Liverpool to further cement their position in the top-three.
We also expect Roberto Firmino to play a key part in this match. The Brazilian has been knocking them in with few problems of late with goals in each of his last two Premier League outings. His season tally of 11 is a personal best and he will be confident of adding a twelfth when he faces Crystal Palace on Sunday.
