With the international break now behind us, Liverpool return to Premier League action with a derby clash with arch-rivals Everton. The Reds enjoy a place in the top four thanks to a decent run in which they secured ten points from five games. Crucial victories over Spurs and Arsenal have resurrected Liverpool’s season after an utterly miserable start to 2017 although there is little room for complacency with Everton, Arsenal and Manchester United breathing down their necks.
The pressure is clearly on then and this weekend’s clash with the Toffees will be far from a walkover with the visitors enjoying some excellent form having suffered just a solitary defeat in their last twelve games in the Premier League, this being a 3-2 loss at Spurs. Romelu Lukaku’s future with the Toffees may have been making headlines but of more immediate importance is Everton’s performances on the pitch and these have undeniably been impressive with wins over West Brom and Hull City their most recent results.
The question is, who will take bragging rights this weekend? Everton may have been on good form but their wins during their recent run have been at Goodison Park and they have struggled on the road. Two wins in twelve away games isn’t an impressive statistic by any means and it doesn’t bode well ahead of their visit to Anfield.
Liverpool have won all but four of their fourteen Premier League matches at Anfield and ran out 1-0 victors in their last meeting with the Toffees at Goodison Park, therefore we’re more inclined to back the Reds this weekend. Jurgen Klopp’s men have nevertheless managed just two clean sheets in their previous thirteen competitive games while Everton have failed to score just once in thirteen matches, therefore expect goals at both ends.
Lukaku continues to bang them in with reckless abandon and we wouldn’t be surprised were he to find the net on Saturday, however Liverpool will score more and collect the three points which will take them a step further towards Champions League football.
