We haven’t even eaten our Christmas dinner yet but already the Premier League title race could well be over. The failure of Manchester United to stop Man City in their tracks in the weekend derby match at Old Trafford was enough to lift Pep Guardiola’s men some eleven points clear at the top of the table. This prompted leading bookie Betfred to pay out on Manchester City lifting the 2017/18 Premier League title, the earliest that any bookmaker has paid out on the title race.

Betfred will now be praying that the Citizens don’t suffer a catastrophic drop in form between now and the close of the campaign, however we don’t believe that any such occurrence will take place and the Citizens will look to further underline their title credentials when they face Spurs at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Spurs will have been hopeful of mounting another title challenge although some dismal results of late have all but ended any chances that they may once have had. They ended a four-match winless run with a 5-1 hammering of Stoke City at the weekend but the fact remains that they won just one of their six league matches between late October and early December and they will be eager to record their first win on their travels since thrashing Huddersfield Town 4-0 in September.

Nevertheless we cannot look past Manchester City’s form this season. Pep Guardiola’s men have been tremendous in front of their home fans this season with just two points dropped thus far. Since their draw with Everton in August they have won each of their eleven competitive outings on home turf with an aggregate scoreline of 28-6 over all opposition in the Premier League at the Etihad. The goals have also been flowing in and as such we’ll be siding with the Citizens to win with over 2.5 total goals scored.

We also expect former Liverpool man Raheem Sterling to contribute to the scoreline on Wednesday evening. Sterling has already found the back of the net some eight times in front of the home fans and we envisage him adding to this tally at the expense of Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday evening.
