Manchester United saw their Premier League title-winning chances go up in smoke when they lost 2-1 at home to arch-rivals Manchester City in December and following some disappointing recent results they now find themselves in real danger of dropping out of the top-four altogether. Two of their last three Premier League games have ended in defeat and while Jose Mourinho's side remain in second position in the league table, they are just four points above a Tottenham Hotspur side which are enjoying some excellent form of late. Indeed the Red Devils are a mere three points above third-placed Chelsea and this is who they will face in an eagerly anticipated clash at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Antonio Conte's future at Stamford Bridge remains less than certain despite some improved performances and results of late. The Blues bounced back from hugely disappointing defeats to Bournemouth and Watford with a 3-0 win over West Bromwich Albion and a creditable 1-1 draw with Barcelona, Willian hitting the post on two occasions in the latter encounter before scoring the opening goal. As such, the Blues will have renewed confidence ahead of this match, however will such confidence prove misplaced?
Chelsea have certainly improved in recent outings, however they have won just two of their last nine competitive games on their travels and haven't managed a single victory at the 'Theatre of Dreams' since May 2013. Since then they have managed a handful of draws but the last meeting of these sides at Old Trafford ended in a 2-0 win for the hosts and with Mourinho's side losing just twice at home since the start of 2016/17 - both of the being at the hands of rivals man City - we'll be happy to side with United to edge this encounter and grab the three points.
We're not expecting too many goals along the way however. United's last four top-six showdowns have returned under 2.5 goals apiece and Chelsea have also struggled to find the net against their top-six rivals. The evidence suggests that goals will be at a premium this weekend so we'll also be going for Under 2.5 total goals in this clash.
