Middlesbrough’s 4-2 defeat to Hull City on Wednesday evening left them floundering some seven points adrift of safety in the relegation zone and they now look in serious danger of dropping straight back down to the Championship at the first time of asking.
Boro have now gone thirteen Premier League games without a win and with just a single point secured from their last five outings, we’re far from confident of their chances of managing anything from their weekend clash with Burnley at the Riverside.
The Clarets were widely tipped to be relegated at the end of the season but they enjoy a seven point cushion on the bottom three and whilst a win on Teesside would not guarantee their position in the top-flight for another season, it would be a massive boost nevertheless.
Indeed Burnley are the only side in the Premier League not to have won away from home this season and this is a situation which manager Sean Dyche will be desperate to rectify. Given that Middlesbrough are the Premier League’s lowest-scoring side and are struggling to find the back of the net, we believe that the Clarets can put to an end their winless away-run by collecting all three points at the Riverside on Saturday afternoon.
