Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur may be fighting it out for top spot but the race for the next three places in the Premier League remains wide open with Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool fighting it out for a top-four position.
Liverpool enjoy a one-point lead over Manchester City with two points separating Jurgen Klopp’s men from the Red Devils. All of this could well change this weekend and Manchester City will be eager to do their part by heading home from Teesside with a maximum points haul in the bag.
We don’t believe that it will be such a difficult task, after all Middlesbrough are looking increasingly out of their depth in the Premier League this season and look likely candidates for relegation, sitting as they are some six points adrift of relative safety.
Indeed whilst mathematically a defeat this weekend wouldn’t send the Teessiders into the Championship, it would be another nail in their coffin and that his exactly what we predict in this match. Boro may have managed three points in their last outing, however that was against Sunderland and one shouldn’t look to much into that. Prior to that win, Middlesbrough were walloped 4-0 by Bournemouth and we believe that losing ways will return to the Riverside when the Citizens come to town.
This will almost certainly be a thoroughly one-sided affair and whilst goals will be flying into the home goal, that of the visitors will remain relatively quiet. Middlesbrough are one of the lowest scoring sides in the Premier League this season and they won’t be adding to their meagre tally by managing even a consolation effort in what looks set to be a thorough defeat this weekend.
