It is only twelve months since Norwich fell from the top flight back into the Championship, however the appointment of Alex Neil as Norwich manager has seen them enjoy an upturn in fortunes and they now sit just one match away from an immediate return back to the promised land of the Premier League.
Norwich sealed a well-deserved two legged win over arch rivals Ipswich Town on their way to the play-off final and the manager was full of praise for the 3-1 win which resulted in a 4-2 aggregate scoreline.
“I'm delighted for the players, everybody reminds us after every game that the pressure is on us and how good a squad we've got,” Neil said to the media.
“You could see the fans getting agitated in the first half (of the second leg) but our message to the players was to keep calm, keep playing and not listen to the supporters. The game was always going to settle down in the second half, and it did, and ultimately we've got where we wanted to be.”
The Canaries will now be looking to finish their quest for promotion by beating a decent Middlesbrough side which thrashed Brentford 5-1 on aggregate on their way to the final and the bookies are optimistic that the East Anglian side can achieve that.
Bet365 go 8/5 that Norwich find a way past their Teesside opponents in ninety minutes next week and seal a place in the top flight, Middlesbrough 19/10 with Sky Bet. A draw in is up for grabs at 12/5.
The Championship play-off final is usually a closely contested affair and the previous three have only been settled by one goal. Both Norwich and 'Boro are up for grabs at 3/1 to win by one goal next week. Cameron Jerome has been key to Norwich City's success this season with 19 goals to his name. As such, he represents decent value at 23/10 with 888sport to score anytime and 6/1 with Bet365 to break the deadlock in what looks set to be a fiercely fought encounter.
