Following Aston Villa's relegation to the Championship, rumours persisted that Nigel Pearson would be appointed as the next manager, however the former Leicester City boss slipped down the betting following news that there was a planned takeover at the club, Roberto Di Matteo replacing him as preferred candidate.
The 45-year-old led Chelsea to the Champions League title four years ago, however his position was never secure and it wasn't a massive shock when he was given the boot later in the year. The Italian made a return to management in October 2014 with Bundesliga side Schalke, however this proved to be a brief reign and a mere seven months later he quit after failing to lead the side into that season's Champions League.
Since then Di Matteo has been out of work, however a huge gamble recently saw him make a return to the top of the betting and following reports that he held talks with Lazio (which saw his odds slip from 8/11 to 6/4), he now once again heads the market with news that he is to have fresh talks with Aston Villa.
Di Matteo is 4/6 with Betfair to be next Villa boss, while former favourite Nigel Pearson has now slipped to 2/1 with Paddy Power. The former Leicester City boss possess plenty of experience in the Championship having managed both Hull City and the Foxes and would certainly prove a very capable man at the helm.
Next in the betting is former Everton and Manchester United boss David Moyes. He has long been linked with the vacant position following the departure of Remi Garde, although reports are suggesting that he is no longer interested in taking the reins at Villa Park (if indeed he actually ever was) and as such, Moyes' odds have fallen to 14/1 with Sky Bet.
