Brendan Rodgers could do little wrong for much of the 2013/14 campaign although it’s not working out for Liverpool FC this season.
In the Premier League, the Reds are way off the title pace and a top four spot currently looks out of reach, while a Champions League exit at the hands of Basel means that Rodgers is under more pressure than ever before.
Over £100 million was spent last summer in the wake of Luis Suarez departing Anfield, although the new recruits have largely failed to shine and Daniel Sturridge’s injury woes haven’t helped matters.
Will Liverpool’s owners look to replace Rodgers?
It’s a definite possibility considering that the Northern Irishman has not seemingly spent well in the transfer market and the Fenway Sports Group might already be considering their options.
Rafael Benitez is 5/1 favourite with Paddy Power to be next Liverpool FC manager, with the Spaniard having been a popular figure at Anfield during his first stint, not least when winning the Champions League in 2005.
Benitez is currently the Napoli boss although he’s made little secret of his love for the Merseyside club and perhaps he will be on FSG’s shortlist.
The other manager being linked to the job is Jurgen Klopp and the current Borussia Dortmund manager might be looking towards England for his next role although Klopp is loyal to his Dortmund outfit while they scrap their way out of the Bundesliga drop zone.
Andre Villas-Boas has presided over Chelsea and Tottenham to limited effect and he’s a 16/1 chance to replace Brendan Rodgers, while Frank de Boer, Ronald Koeman and Laurent Blanc are all 10/1 shots.
Rodgers will hope to be given more time to improve the team’s fortunes although a defeat at Old Trafford might see a growing section of supporters turn against a manager who was seemingly reliant on Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge for results last season.
