Leeds United gaffer Garry Monk is a surprise early frontrunner for the position of Middlesbrough manager. The Whites boss was around 10/1 in the Next Middlesbrough Manager market, however a rash of betting over the past couple of days have resulted in his odds being slashed to 4/9 to make the move from Elland Road to the Riverside Stadium.
Monk was appointed as Leeds United manager during the summer of 2016 on a single-year deal however despite lifting the Championship side into the play-offs towards the end of the season, he was unable to keep them there and ultimately they failed to secure a top-six finish.
Indeed Monk was widely expected to sign a lengthier deal with the club but it would appear that any such negotiations are currently on hold amid moves by Andrea Radrizzani to take complete control at Elland Road. Any delay could ultimately prove costly for Leeds United as well as beneficial for Middlesbrough.
Boro dispensed with the services of Aitor Karanka two months' ago and Steve Agnew was installed as caretaker manager until the end of the season. He failed to turn around the side's fortunes and they went quietly down into the second tier with just one win in Agnew's eleven games in charge.
Agnew is 20/1 outsider to be offered the position on a permanent basis with former favourite Ryan Giggs falling to 6/1 with Sky Bet and Nigel Pearson next at 7/1 with the same firm.
