Tranmere Rovers make the journey to the East Riding of Yorkshire on Tuesday evening, however will they return home with the spoils in the bag?
Without attempting to sound disrespectful, North Ferriby United are one of those ‘smaller’ clubs which few have even heard of, however they sit just one step away from the Football League and will be expecting a full-house at their tiny Grange Lane ground when promotion-hopefuls Tranmere Rovers come to town on Tuesday evening.
Indeed both of these sides are experiencing vastly differing fortunes this season and whilst Tranmere are looking likely candidates for promotion via the play-offs, tiny North Ferriby United are staring relegation to National League North squarely in the face.
As such, there is little doubt as to who we favour in this week’s clash. Tranmere Rovers certainly don’t have things all to themselves as regards promotion back into the Football League with both Forest Green Rovers and Lincoln City enjoying a five-point lead over the Wirral side, however Micky Mellon’s men have enjoyed an excellent season and we expect this to be ultimately rewarded at the end of the season. Indeed five points isn’t an unsurmountable gap and Rovers will be mindful that the two joint leaders face each other this coming weekend.
Looking to Tuesday evening’s clash, there isn’t a huge amount of scope in backing either side on the outright winner market. North Ferriby are 6/1 to collect all three points but we feel that such a result would be a massive shock given their respective form. The East Yorkshire side have managed just a solitary win in their last eight games, their other seven outings during this time ending in defeat. Tranmere may have stumbled of late with a defeat to Barrow and draw at Torquay, however they shouldn’t have too much trouble in disposing of a North Ferriby side although at odds of 1/2 few will be backing them on the outright winner market.
Despite languishing close to the foot of the National League table, North Ferriby United have been managing to score a few goals along the way with just two blanks in their last six outings. Tranmere have kept just two clean-sheets in their previous eleven games in all competitions and this leads us towards backing the visitors to win and both teams to score at healthier odds of 13/5 with William Hill.
