I think it fair to say that Norwich City have often looked down their noses at arch-rivals Ipswich Town and this has led to a large amount of animosity between the sides. There can be little doubt that for both of these clubs, this weekend’s meeting at Carrow Road will be one of the two biggest fixtures in their respective calendars, at least as far as the Championship is concerned.
The Canaries enjoy a ten-point lead over the Tractorboys as we head towards this match and the hosts will be confident of adding to this lead on Sunday afternoon. Alex Neil’s men sit just seven points adrift of the play-off places and with much of the season left to play, there will be an air of optimism around Carrow Road regarding Norwich City’s ability to bounce straight back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.
Clearly they need to get a few wins onto the board first and this weekend’s clash with local rivals Ipswich Town will certainly provide them with a very stern test. Indeed the Canaries were humbled in their 2-1 defeat to struggling Burton Albion in their last outing although this came on the back of a six-game unbeaten run in the Championship. Can Alex Neil’s men bounce back with a win over the Tractorboys on Sunday? We think so.
Ipswich Town look set to finish the season in a mid-table position although they will nevertheless be desperate to put one over on their arch-rivals this weekend. Mick McCarthy’s side managed to hold Brighton & Hove Albion and Leeds United to 1-1 draws in their last two league games and head into this weekend’s clash on the back of a decent four-game unbeaten run. Nevertheless Ipswich are very much a mixed bag on their travels and we cannot find a strong argument in favour of the visitors on this occasion.
Norwich will be anxious to close the gap on the top six and we feel that they can do this by collecting all three points at lunchtime on Sunday, although we’ll be backing Ipswich Town to play their part by finding the net in their fourth successive match.
