Newcastle United were looking forward to an EFL Cup semi-final appearance with the side heading into stoppage time with a 1-0 lead over Hull City, however things turned against Rafael Benitez's men after Snodgrass scored for the Tigers nine minutes into injury time and the Tyneside's ultimately went out on penalties.
Benitez will be hopeful that Newcastle United can make a return back to winning ways by sealing three points tonight when they travel to Nottingham Forest's City Ground. Indeed the Magpies have suffered defeat in their last two outings having lost 1-0 at home to Championship strugglers Blackburn Rovers last weekend and with Brighton & Hove Albion breathing down their necks, a win is a must for the Magpies this evening.
Things are slightly better with Nottingham Forest as the East Midlands outfit enjoy a two-match winning run heading into this clash, the side having won 2-0 at Ipswich and 5-2 at Barnsley. Those vital six points have lifted Forest clear of the bottom three and into a more creditable 17th place in the Championship table, however Philippe Montanier's men have managed just a single league win at home since August and the head-to-head between themselves and Newcastle United doesn't make for the best reading with Forest enjoying just one win from the last eleven meetings.
Indeed with Forest's questionable home record and Newcastle's excellent form on the road, it is hard to see past an away win for the Toon Army tonight. Dwight Gayle has been instrumental in many of Newcastle United's victories with thirteen goals so far this season, therefore a Magpies win with Gayle on the scoresheet looks the best value bet at 6/4 with Ladbrokes.
