Scottish Premiership side Motherwell travel to Hampden Park for their Scottish Befred Cup match with Queens Park on Saturday afternoon
Motherwell spent much of last season battling against the drop to the Scottish Championship and they will be desperate to get off to a better start when they launch their 2017/18 campaign, especially so since the top-flight looks set to be even tighter than usual. Before they can start thinking about the league however, the Steelmen have what appears to be a plum draw in the opening group match of this season’s Scottish Betfred Cup.
Motherwell are odds-on at 3/10 to win the group, a price which indicates the quality of their opponents and they should enjoy a relatively straightforward victory in their opening match against Queens Park this weekend. The home side finished the 2016/17 season in a mid-table position in League One and they failed to impress in the League Cup last time around.
Celtic put pay to Motherwell’s League Cup ambitions last season although the Steelmen nevertheless put in some decent displays along the way with easy wins over Stranraer and Annan Athletic. This is another winnable game for the Premiership side and unsurprisingly Motherwell are huge odds-on favourites to launch their season in positive fashion by heading home with the win in the bag this weekend.
Indeed Queens Park are hardly likely to provide much opposition in this match and we feel that the Steelmen will grab a shedload of goals along the way. Backing the visitors in the outright market isn’t going to reward the punter with a big payout, however a correct score is a different matter and we envisage Motherwell putting this tie to bed with a 3-0 win at Hampden Park on Saturday afternoon.
