Rangers were far from impressive in their 2-1 win at Motherwell's Fir Park last weekend but they put in a much more emphatic display when dealing with Championship side Dunfermline Athletic in last night's Scottish League Cup clash at Ibrox. Indeed while Bruno Alves was brought in to prevent goals, Alfredo Morelos was signed to score them and he did that in style against the Pars with a free-kick that stole the show. Indeed it was the Colombian's all-round performance and finishing that gave boss Pedro Caixinha his biggest boost.
With the Light Blues toiling against Motherwell, the supporters wanted to see something from their £1 million signing and the 21-year-old gave them it He had a major part to play in the opening two goals before scoring two of his own as Rangers tore Dunfermline apart with clinical efficiency to set themselves up with a quarter-final date with Partick Thistle.
It is back to league action this weekend and Rangers will play host to Premiership new-boys Hibernian on Saturday afternoon. The Edinburgh side enjoyed a great start to life back in the top-flight when they demolished Partick Thistle to the tune of 3-1 at Easter Road last weekend but they will be handed a much bigger test when they face Rangers at Ibrox on Saturday. A huge boost will have came Hibs' way on Tuesday evening when they thrashed Ayr United 5-0 in what was a thoroughly one-sided affair, however whilst we believe that the weekend visitors to Ibrox will succeed in getting onto the scoresheet at some point, it will be purely a consolation as the hosts collect all three points.
Expect Alfredo Morelos to have a part to play.
