Rotherham United failed to put up much of a fight in this season’s Championship and were condemned to the drop to League One some time ago. Whilst they have shown signs of improvement in recent weeks, they have still been losing games consistently and with this weekend’s visitors Ipswich Town finding some decent form of late, an away victory looks pretty much a banker in this clash.
The Tractor Boys have endured an uninspiring campaign but they are closing things off with a bit of a flourish with back-to-back wins over Burton Albion and Newcastle United. This should give them no end of confidence ahead of this weekend’s clash with a Millers side which boast by far the worst defensive record in the division. Ipswich may have lost just twice in their last fourteen matches but it is only in recent weeks that they have been converting draws into wins. Former West Ham man Freddie Sears has been largely responsible for this recent improvement and with four goals in his last four matches, we’ll be backing him to find the net at the New York Stadium this weekend.
For their part, Rotherham have managed a mere two points from their last seventeen Championship matches and will be desperate to put what has been a nightmare season firmly behind them. They have displayed signs of improvement of late and this should stand them in good stead in League One next season but they are certainly out of their depth in the second tier.
Indeed all but one of their league points have been at the New York Stadium but this hides the fact that they are far from impressive in front of their home fans. They have conceded over 2.2 goals each game throughout the season and as well as the worst goalscoring record in the Championship, they also boast the worst home record, worst defensive record and worst away record.
We’ll be backing Ipswich Town then.
