No side has won more Scottish League Cups than Rangers although the latest betting odds would suggest that the Light Blues won't be winning the competition for a 28th time in 2017/18. Pedro Caixinha's men failed to impress in their first season back in the Scottish Premiership and they ultimately finished a country-mile behind runaway winners Celtic at the end of the season. Indeed Rangers failed to get their hands on any silverware whatsoever in 2016/17 and there is little to suggest that things will be any better in the next campaign.
Rangers have already suffered the embarrassment of being dumped out of the Europa League at the qualifying stages by minnows Progres Niedercorn and it is something of a surprise to see the side as high as second in the outright market for the 2017/18 Scottish League Cup.
There are no prizes for guessing who the favourites to win the Scottish League Cup are. Celtic are utterly dominant in Scottish football at the moment with a clean sweep of domestic trophies in 2016/17. They defeated Aberdeen 3-0 in last season's League Cup final and the bookies believe that they will make it back-to-back successes in the competition.
Aberdeen have been beaten finalists twice running and while they will be confident of going one better next season, they sit third in the outright betting at 8/1, just behind Rangers. The only sides priced shorter than 33/1 are Hearts, Hibernian and St Johnstone, however could there be a surprise in store for 2017/18?
