Following their shock 5000/1 Premier League title success in 2015/16, few believed that Leicester City would be sitting just one place and a single point above the bottom three at this stage of the following campaign. Saying that, even fewer believed that the Foxes would also be in the last sixteen of the Champions League following an excellent showing in group stages of the tournament.
On the domestic front the Foxes have been pretty abysmal. A run of five back-to-back defeats have left Claudio Ranieri’s men hovering above the drop zone and they were dumped out of the FA Cup by League One outfit Millwall last weekend. Ranieri will be demanding a much more thorough performance in Sevilla tonight but one cannot help but feel that his side’s involvement in the Champions League will effectively end this evening in Spain.
Whilst Leicester may have performed above expectations in the Champions League, their last European outing ended in a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of FC Porto and the Foxes have failed to find the net in their last six outings in all competitions. They will be facing a Sevilla side which are old-hands when it comes to taking on the best in Europe and who are also flying high in La Liga. Sevilla’s form at home has been extremely impressive with nine wins in their ten home matches and one has to fancy their chances of adding to this success with a win tonight.
A clean sheet would clearly be the icing on the cake and we feel that this is a very likely scenario given that the hosts have managed this in their last three games. Leicester have found the net in just two of their previous eight outings and as such we’ll be backing a Sevilla win-to-nil tonight.
