Both of these sides are enjoying some great form at the moment and we believe that Donetsk have a great chance to kick-start their Champions League campaign with a win on home soil this evening. These sides have been involved in a total of fourteen games between them this season with all-but-one of these ending in victory, the only disappointment being Shakhtar’s 1-0 defeat to rivals Dynamo Kiev.
The Ukrainian champions have enjoyed six successive wins since that defeat and they will prove a tough opponent for Napoli tonight. Paulo Fonseca is now manager of the Ukrainian side and he enjoyed success in his first season in charge with a Cup and League double plus a Super Cup victory.
Shakhtar have a Brazilian flavour to their side with their key player Marlos being the player of the year in Ukraine last year. The bookies make the hosts outsiders to collect all three points but we believe that they have what it takes to get their European adventure off to the best possible start.
Nevertheless Napoli have enjoyed a great start to their own campaign with five of their wins coming with at least a goal to spare. Indeed there won’t be much to separate these sides tonight and whilst we’re tempted to go for the draw, we do believe that Shakhtar can edge this clash and upset the form book at the Metalist Stadium in Kharkiv.
