The Blades have usually been found amongst the promotion contenders over the past few seasons and have always fallen at one of the final hurdles, however this year they are looking likely promotion contenders with manager Chris Wilder proving influential in Sheffield United’s rise up the table.
Indeed given the Blades’ form this season it is pretty inconceivable that they won’t be plying their trade in the Championship next season and with a ten point gap between themselves and third-placed Fleetwood Town it is equally unlikely that any promotion won’t be automatic.
Chris Wilder’s men are certainly the strongest side in League One and it is hardly a surprise to see them head into Tuesday evening’s match as firm odds-on favourites at 4/6 with Ladbrokes. Nevertheless their home form – whilst undeniably impressive – isn’t without blemish and the fact that they have lost six games at Bramall Lane dents our confidence slightly.
That said, all-but-one of these defeats occurred before the end of November and since then they have looked very much like worthy champions. Indeed whilst Millwall are certain to prove tough opposition and should contribute to the scoring at Bramall Lane, we see little evidence to suggest that Wilder’s men won’t be celebrating another vital win as they edge their way ever closer to the League One title on Tuesday evening.
