Tottenham Hotspur are once again amongst the genuine title contenders this season and whilst they sit some ten points adrift of table-topping Chelsea as things stand, a win on Saturday afternoon would do much to keep Mauricio Pochettino’s men within sight of the Blues.
Spurs stumbled in their last Premier League outing with the 2-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield doing nothing to help their title ambitions and they subsequently fell to a shock 1-0 defeat to Belgian side Gent in the Europa League last week. Whilst this is being written prior to their return leg at home to the Belgians, we fully expect Pochettino’s men to come out on top and head into this weekend’s clash with a confidence-boosting victory under their belts.
For their part, Stoke City have been more than holding their own in this season’s Premier League. The Potters enjoyed a 1-0 over struggling Crystal Palace last weekend but this was their first win in four outings in the top-flight. Nevertheless given that they held Manchester United and Everton to 1-1 draws and thumped Sunderland to the tune of 2-0 at the Stadium of Light last month, we believe that they can find the back of the net at White Hart Lane against a Spurs side which have conceded in two of their last three games in all competitions.
Spurs should have little difficulty in securing all three points at home this weekend but Stoke City are no mugs and should ensure that we’re subjected to an entertaining and end-to-end encounter in north London on Sunday.
